Isolators and Switches

Isolation Switches

Isolators are switching devices that create a break in the circuit that will withstand a minimum voltage breakdown to ensure the output remains isolated at all times from the input of the switch in order to ensure the output can not become live due to a breakdown fault

Isolators can be supplied in two standard formats, ‘Panel Mounting’ and ‘Door Interlocking’.

Panel Mounting
Here the isolation switch is mounted directly on an external panel so that the switching handle which is an integral part of the unit is accessible from outside the transformer enclosure. The panel to which it is mounted does not open to allow access to the inside of the enclosure. The isolator simply provides a means of disconnecting the supply to the output from the transformer.

Door Interlocking
Here the switch body and the switching handle are separate units that are linked by a shaft. The handle is mounted on a panel that can be opened to allow access to the inside of the transformer enclosure. The switching body is mounted internally within the enclosure with the shaft aligned to mate with the handle when the access panel is closed. When in the ‘ON’ position the shaft can not be released by the handle so the door can not be opened with the system live.

Both types of isolator can be supplied with padlockable catches to ensure that the isolator can not be switched without the keyholders authority e.g. during service work the isolator can be locked off until the work has been completed and can not be made live during the service

General Purpose Switching

In addition to Isolation Switches we can offer general purpose switches fitted to perform a variety of functions. While isolators are restricted to a simple ‘ON / OFF’ function switches in general can be used to perform more varied functions
E.g.

  • Emergency Stop Switches
  • Start Button Switches
  • Selector Switches for meters
  • Off-load Tap Changer Switches
Push Button Switches
